FAQs - Laboratory Policies Q: Can I have a lab test done if I don't have a doctor's "order"?A: No. All lab tests require a doctor's order, even those that seem common like HIV, cholesterol, or blood type. Q: Why am I able to get lab tests done at the Health Fair? I don't have a specific doctor's order for that. A: At the Health Fair, which is a screening event, a staff physician authorizes a standard screening test just for the Health Fair. The test is not for follow-up on a specific set of symptoms or a disease. It is simply a screening, and Health Fair participants are informed that it is their responsibility to see a physician for interpretation of results. Q: What if I'm a visitor to the Aspen area and my physician is from out-of-town? A: If a patient has an order, AVH can perform the test. In addition to the name of the test, the doctor must provide us with a diagnosis, and his/her address, phone number, and fax number. Q: How do I get the results of my lab tests? A: Your test results will be sent to your physician; however, you may obtain a personal copy by signing an information release form at the time of your laboratory visit. You may also contact the Medical Records Department. Q: How do I go about giving blood? A: AVH sponsors three community blood drives per year in conjunction with St. Mary's Regional Blood Bank. To obtain the date of the next blood drive, call AVH Community Relations at (970) 544-1296. For more information or questions regarding the blood drives, call St. Mary's Regional Blood Bank at (970) 244-2555. We do not draw blood for donation at any other time, unless a patient is donating blood for him/herself prior to surgery. Q: What are your hours? A: We are staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. However, we ask that you or your doctor always schedule an appointment with our Scheduling Department at (970) 544-1392 before coming to the lab. This allows us to utilize our time efficiently and helps you avoid a lengthy wait. |
