Orthopedic Services/Sports Medicine In addition to providing care for locals and visitors to Aspen, AVH is a "destination" hospital when it comes to orthopedics and sports medicine. Many patients travel to AVH for elective orthopedic care, just as skiers travel to our community for recreation. That's because orthopedics is our specialty. We strive to meet or exceed the standards of orthopedic excellence that are found in urban centers. We have requisite diagnostic imaging technology, a digital operating room that is as well equipped as any in the nation, and minimally-invasive techniques such as arthroscopy and laser surgery -- which reduce discomfort and recovery time -- are well established. And, we understand our patients' desire to return to an active lifestyle. Our surgeons work closely with an all-RN nursing staff and a progressive physical therapy department to get you back on your feet and on the road to recovery as quickly as possible.Orthopedic surgeons at AVH have earned world-wide acclaim for their expertise in orthopedic care. Clinical research, conducted through the Aspen Sports Medicine Foundation, has helped us to devise better treatment regimes, and, at the same time, reduce the patient's length of stay in the hospital. Clinical research conducted at AVH includes sport-specific injury analysis (skiing, snowboarding, and cycling), and techniques for the care of knee and shoulder injuries. Research findings have been reported in major medical journals and at academic conferences throughout the world. In addition, physicians on our staff have traveled with elite Olympic athletes, serving as consulting physicians for U.S. teams. Since a significant portion of our clientele is made up of visitors, we know that those who are away from home have very special needs and concerns. At AVH, we apply our extensive experience to meet your needs and alleviate your concerns. We are skilled at beginning post-operative rehabilitation at AVH, and then easily and effectively transferring your care to specialists in your home area. Operative reports and other information about your condition can be sent with you when you are discharged. X-rays, CT scans, and MRI scans can be copied to a CD and sent home with you, as well.
